Account Information Services:A
Clearer View Across Business Accounts

“Account information services can bring permitted balances and transactions into one view, helping finance teams see rather than move money.”

Read access with a defined purpose

An account information service provider, or AISP, can retrieve and present information from accessible payment accounts with the account holder’s explicit consent. The service may consolidate balances and transaction data from several institutions. It does not, by virtue of that role alone, have permission to initiate payments.

The usefulness depends on account coverage, data freshness and consistent transaction descriptions. A dashboard should identify when an account last refreshed so a finance team does not mistake old information for a live balance.

Business uses beyond a balance dashboard

Consolidated data can support daily cash-position checks, matching customer receipts, identifying expected supplier debits and preparing short-term forecasts. It may reduce manual downloads, but the business still needs accounting rules and human review for ambiguous entries.

A multi-account view can complement a multi-currency business payment service. When money must be moved, the finance team should select an authorised route such as SEPA or SWIFT based on currency and destination.

Govern consent and data access

Businesses should decide who can connect an account, which accounts are appropriate and how access is removed when an employee changes role. The provider should explain the data requested, the service purpose, consent duration and security controls. Imported information should be treated as sensitive financial data.

  • Limit connections to accounts needed for the stated purpose.

  • Record the employee authorised to give consent.

  • Check refresh timestamps and error states.

  • Map imported data to the correct legal entity and ledger.

  • Revoke access when the service or user no longer needs it.

Integration determines whether the data is useful

APIs must normalise institution-specific data and preserve a reliable link to the original account event. Modular Fintech’s API integrations page outlines how platforms connect these services to core systems and operational workflows.
